Finding Inspiration…

Uncategorized

It’s the first day of the school holidays.  I’ve got a mountain of work to do, spring cleaning to start, hair and dental appointments to make, stuff to sell on ebay and an active seven year old to keep busy for two weeks…  There’s alot going on, but the Cats won on the weekend, it’s a gorgeous day here in Melbourne and we’ve just bought a rainwater tank so I’m feeling suitably inspired today to “Just Do It!.”

I’ve got lots of writing to get through this week and as much as I love doing it, it can be hard to get started.  Playing music and sitting in the right spot in the room helps inspire me to find the right words.  So does sitting on my deck gazing over the garden and fixing on some point in the distance…it helps to clear the mind and re-focus.

Writing on such diverse subjects as architectural facades, fitness centres, airport security and home interiors does stretch the brain somewhat and so finding inspiration to bounce from one to the other is important.  I’m not saying that I jump from one to the other every 10 minutes, but if I’m working on one subject in the morning, I then have to take a break to move on to another in the afternoon.  Watching tv at midday (the first half of the Ellen De Generes show is great if she’s got good guests…) is one way I switch off.  I then put on Genesis or Annie Lennox, gaze across the garden and I’m off into my writers trance…

Time’s ticking away so I’d better go off and find some inspiration… Have a good day and enjoy the holidays!
