What are your personal motivators?
Attending the Brad Sugars seminar last week got me thinking about personal motivators and what drives us to do what we do in life.
I fell into my career because I am good at writing. At school, english was the one subject I loved and found easy. I struggled with history (too many facts and figures, none of which I could see the point of) and maths (trigonometry and pie charts bored me to tears) but with english, I enjoyed making up stories and reading them aloud in class. I did alot of temping work at local businesses during the school holidays and developed an interest in marketing. My writing skills were a great asset in the business world so I decided to go to University where I studied for a business studies and marketing qualification and haven’t looked back since.
My interest in marketing communications is mainly driven by the desire to help others and seek out opportunities to make a business’s product or service shine. I love a challenge and get great pleasure from knowing that I have done a good job. There’s no greater reward than hearing a customer say that they love your work: it’s a great motivator and what keeps me going through tough times. And a happy customer will hopefully tell others how great your work is which creates fantastic opportunities for new business.
My two other key personal motivators are the passion to suceed and the determination to do a good job. Combine these with a dose of patience, tolerance and understanding and hopefully I’m on my way to achieving great things. I’d love to know what your personal motivators are – why not drop me a line ruth@purplechameleon.com.au.
